How can I get my handlebar thumb control to work?
If the Steering Wheel Control (handlebar thumb control) does not work with the PMX-HD9813 source unit, it's typically attributed to aftermarket handlebar installations. Installing aftermarket handlebars usually requires the wiring harnesses to be spliced and extended, causing the thumb control to stop working.
1998-2013 Harley-Davidson models use resistive values (instead of digital CANbus values) to determine radio functionality. If the wiring harness is extended, the extra wiring length cause higher resistance in the cable, causing the thumb control to no longer trigger the appropriate command.
Rockford Fosgate incorporated an SWC CONTROL, allowing you to change resistive values for the thumb controls. Follow the below instructions to customize your PMX source unit to work with your aftermarket handlebars installation.
