NOTICE!!!! RFX9900DM RCA Output Functionality Clarification
It has been found that there is confusion regarding the functionality of the RCA outputs of the RFX9900DM Marine Headunit. The following information is intended to clarify that confusion.
Current manual and labeling found on the headunit states the unit has front, rear and subwoofer pairs of RCA output plugs. While this is accurate, the true functionality of these outputs is not clearly defined in the provided documentation with the radio. Below is a description of each set of RCA connections and their intended use.
Front RCA's - Provide a full range stereo audio signal to facilitate the connection of aftermarket amplifiers and speakers. This output signal is determined by the main source selection on the radio..i.e Radio, iPod, USB, etc.
Rear RCA's - Rear Zone or Zone 2 output. This pair of RCA's provides a full range 2nd zone output who's output source and level are not affected by the main source selection or volume levels. The signal source and output level for the 2nd zone are set through the menu options of the headunit. These outputs are intended to provide signal to a secondary zone system only and not intended to be wired as part of a main zone output. WARNING! If an amplifier is connected using these outputs, the output level will be high immediately upon turning on the headunit and damage to speakers may occur. Use caution when first turning the system on.
F/R Subwoofer RCA's - This "pair" of RCA's are actually two separate "mono" outputs. The front is dedicated to the MAIN source output and the rear is dedicated to the ZONE 2 output. When connecting to these outputs, it is recommended to use an RCA Y-splitter for connection to a subwoofer amplifier. As with the labeled Front and Rear RCA pairs, the Front SUB source and level is controlled by the main volume control and mode selections. The Rear SUB source and level is controlled by the rear zone controls in the set-up menu. The same warning applies to the Rear SUB output as the Rear RCA outputs.
***If a true Rear output capability is desired then use of an RF-HLC hi-low convertor on the rear speaker wire outputs can be used to convert to an RCA level signal for amplification.***
