Do I need a bigger alternator if my lights dim when the bass hits?
Option #1
Most issues of lights dimming can be solved with a Punch Capacitor. A Capacitor is an energy storage capacitor, and will store energy and deliver it when the system needs it. As a general rule-of-thumb, we recommend 1 Farad per 1,000 Watts. This typically reduces dimming lights issues and usually results in harder-hitting bass. This is due to the Capacitor's reserve current supply provided for your vehicle's electrical system.
Option #2
If you are still having excessive dimming after adding a Capacitor, then your amplifier(s) are demanding more current then your vehicle's electrical system can provide. In this scenario, we recommend upgrading to a higher-output alternator and higher capacity battery suited for car audio applications.
